Transatlantik returns with a two-day immersion into the syncretic thought and spirit forms of the Black Atlantic. Featuring performers finding expression through the ancient and modern modalities of Cuba, Trinidad and Haiti, night one welcomes revelatory Cuban improvisers Jardineros (Hery Paz, Román Díaz, Francisco Mela), steel pan-centered creative music trio Tree Trini Collective (Fay Victor, Lyndon Achee, Jessie Cox), and roots-to-the-future collagist DJ Sabine Blaizin (oyasound).

As much as Transatlantik II will be a celebration, it is also happening in the midst of a major crisis facing NYC’s Caribbean community at this moment. 100% of ticket proceeds from both nights will be donated to Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees, a Brooklyn-based organization offering free legal clinics, preparedness workshops and other support to those affected by the Trump administration’s termination of TPS (Temporary Protection Status) for Haiti. Thousands of Haitian New Yorkers (and 350,000 Haitians nationwide) have been impacted by the loss of legal status and cancellation of pending applications, and now face returning to a country wracked by political instability, gang and gender-based violence.

Jardineros brings together three remarkable Cuban musicians whose intertwined stories represent both the legacy and possible trajectories of the island’s storied music: multi-woodwind player Hery Paz, multi-dimensional drummer Francisco Mela and “living repository” of Afro-Cuban culture Román Díaz on percussion and voice. Searching within and beyond the forms and structures of Cuban musical and religious traditions and contemporary jazz, the trio rework sacred, rhythmic and poetic materials, transforming them into a deeply personal and improvisational practice. Jardineros troubles conceptions of mysticism, cliché, and folkloric preservation, offering a poetic declaration of freedom—a path in which contemporaneity and tradition go hand in hand.

The Tree Trini Collective—vocalist Fay Victor, steelpan player Lyndon Achee and drummer Jessie Cox—center the long and often-undiscussed history of experimentation at the musical core of the sister island nations of Trinidad and Tobago. Drawing on the ancestral resourcefulness of turning first bamboo then discarded oil drums into instruments that would become the steelpan, Tree Trini Collective projects T&T’s musical diaspora into futures unknown. Through improvisation and new compositions by all three group members, the group uses the vibrational space of their shared ancestry and artistry to express “our deepest feelings and connections at this time. We go back to our roots to move forward.” Tree Trini Collective’s appearance at Transatlantik II also marks the start of Fay Victor’s residency with FourOneOne, which continues through January 2027.

DJ Sabine Blaizin, celebrated DJ and founder of Oyasound Productions, will spin selections at the intersection of Afro-diasporic traditional rhythms & electronic music before, after and between the live sets.

This second edition of Transatlantik is part of an ongoing series of performances, discussions, and other public convenings exploring creolization as a living process—from Martinican author Patrick Chamoiseau’s reformulation of negritude into the polyvalent identities of créolité, to the myriad expressions of contemporary Afro-diasporic communities from around the world.

FourOneOne's programs are made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

FourOneOne was supported by New Music USA’s Organization Fund in 2026–2027.
